Rumbling Thunder

We slept to a rumbling thunder all night last night.

Three different lines of thunderstorms hit us as the hours passed.

You could hear the rain come down in buckets at times.

The rain would let up here and there, and then you could hear the wind, bending the trees.

The thunder shifted back and forth between distant rumbling and popping and cracking over our heads.

The rain had not stopped one bit by the time we needed to leave for school.

There were a lot of girls squealing as I held the umbrella for each of you on our way to the car.

We all got wet.

I love you.

Bad Parent

I know I am not a bad parent.

It’s that sometimes, I simply feel like a bad parent.

I’m not patient when I should be.

I raise my voice when I should not.

I make something a bigger issue than it should be.

I mean, I try to give myself the benefit of the doubt:

Everyone is tired, or everyone is hungry, or what have you…

But it’s hard.

This last Saturday was a good example.

We were all the worst versions of ourselves.

It’s difficult when we get such limited time off from work and school to be together, and everyone seems so unhappy by 11 a.m.

Anyway, I’m just trying to say I’m sorry.

If you have any memories of me where I was unkind, I apologize.

You were the great joy of my life and the best thing I ever did.

I love you.
