You Made Three Points

H, you scored in your first points in a basketball game today!

You made one shot from the field and then got fouled and made one free throw later in the game for a total of three points!

Running an offense had proved difficult for a group of first-grade girls still learning to dribble…

You have to dribble, look up the court, pass the ball, have teammates that can get open, and finally be able to shoot the ball in the goal.

So I have been trying to work on defense with y’all:

  • Keep your arms up.
  • Stay between the girl you are guarding and the goal.
  • Move your legs.
  • And if your girl gets the ball – go take it away from her.

We lost the game 11-22 today, but y’all are playing better and better every week.

Did I forget to say here that I was the coach?

Hannah’s mom Leandra and I are coaching.

I love you.

After VBS

T, you were sick today.

You had a fever this morning and mom is slammed at work – so you and I stayed home together.

But – since it’s the summer – K wanted to skip and stay home too.

H was at VBS until noon.

But again – since it’s the summer – H asked to stay home after VBS too (skipping her afternoon at Rock Solid summer camp).

So it turned in to a girls day with dad!

It was a good day.

T, you felt so bad though that you cried anytime I was not holding you.

We play a lot in the floor, listened o music, went for a drive around town, and watched a little TV.

Of course we got an email later in the day that confirmed cases of hand-foot-and-mouth are in your class at Learning Tree!

So we hope we are not out for a week with you feeling bad…

I love you.

Planning a Sleepover

I forgot to write a post about Memorial Day the weekend before last.

We spent it in Kerrville like we always do.

On Monday we drove to New Braunfels to eat lunch with my friends Natalie and Steve and Danny and Kelsey.

We hung out at Natalie and Steve’s house, ate pizza, and herded all you kids around like little chickens while us adults tried to visit a little.

6 adults, 8 kids!

Kendall, you bonded a little bit with Natalie and Steve’s daughter Hallie. By the end of the afternoon y’all were planning a sleepover.

Outside of that the weekend with Grandma and Grandpa felt a little heavy.

Grandpa is as slow getting around as ever and I can see it weighing on Grandma.

She follows him around helping him do nearly everything – and it wears her out.

We did make it to the Wild Flower farm in Fredericksburg one afternoon! Grandma came with us and we ate peach ice cream in the shade.

Grandpa and I worked on fixing the broken mailbox too.

You girls came to check on us and found a huge spider in a high web.

But when we went hunting it later with the BB gun, the spider was gone.

H and K, I showed you both how to shoot the BB gun and you took turns shooting a cactus next to the driveway.

I hope we get to do it all again next year.

I love you.
