Looking For Shade

Last day of school today…

H, you have finished the first grade!

You had a big field-trip to Blazing Bouncers and the park all afternoon.

I did not get to go but mom chaperoned.

Trouble was, you didn’t feel very good today.

You are run down and have a low grade fever.

If I had to guess, I think you have a cold…

You felt so bad, we even let you skip basketball practice this evening.

K, you have finished Pre-K(3)!

Your class had a pizza and swim party.

Your class set up a slip-n-slide, a water slide, and even had a big water balloon fight.

I stayed for the whole thing and only had one complaint.

It was so hot!

I nearly sweated through my work clothes and spent too much time looking for shade.

I am so proud of y’all. You both had fantastic years, although I have a sense that three years went by over the past 12 months.

Anyway. I am super tired. What a big day.

Off for a Kerrville Memorial Day tomorrow.

I love you.

Tubes In Your Ears

K, you got tubes in your ears early this morning.

Of course, ridiculous COVID, only one of us could go back with you during surgery…

So – yeah – mom took you.

I stayed with H and K and got them off to school for the day.

Today was chapel too so I was late getting to work.

You and mom were already home by the time I got to my desk.

Thankfully, mom said you had a super quick recovery.

The doctor said your ears were so stopped up you were likely having a hard time hearing us.

Mom swears you are already babbling more…

I love you.

Small Hugs

K, you have got this thing that you say that is just the best.

It starts whenever I give you an extra big hug.

I wrap you up in my arms – and squeeze you extra tight – and you stop me.

No, dad. No. Small hugs. Do small hugs.

So I back up and and adjust.

And then we give each other the most sensitive and tender little squeezes.

There you go dad. Small hugs.

You are just the most perfect little biscuit.

I love you.
