Snuggled Right Up

K, you finally slept in your own room night before last.

You slept in your own room – until about midnight (I honestly don’t even know what time it was. I was asleep.) when you crawled into bed between mom and I.

The night was fine and all, but you woke up at about 6 and woke me up asking me to get out of bed with you.

Mom was already reading in the other room.

I stopped you and asked you if I could snuggle you.

You stopped, got back under the covers, and snuggled right up beside me.

I put my arm around you and we both fell right back asleep. For an entire hour!

I love you.

Mermaid And Wonder Woman

It occurs to me that I forgot to write a post about Halloween this year.

What is wrong with me?

H, you went as a Mermaid.
K, you went as Wonder Woman.

K, mom and I left work early to go to your fall festival.

Mom and you were doing a cake walk when I got there.

We stopped at nearly every stall and played nearly every game before calling it quits.

Your favorite thing was playing on the big playground, mom and I shadowing your every move.

We left with a boatload of candy by 5 and went to get H.

You girls changed into your costumes at home and we left our house for truck-or-treat at church by 5:45.

Most year’s, trunk-or-treat is in the church’s back parking lot and is relatively low key. This year it was in the front lot – just off the loop – and attracted TONS of people. (Not a bad thing.)

H, you ran into a few friends from school and wanted to play in the five or six available bounce houses all night. K, you were honestly too cold to enjoy much, and insisted that I carry you everywhere we went.

Mom and I were scheduled to hand out candy at a truck with our Sunday School class, but there were so many people we ran out of candy 5 minutes into our shift.

We left after that. It became bitterly cold as the sun began to go down.

To top it off though we stopped to trick or treat at half a dozen houses, probably a hundred yards west down our street.

Here’s the pumpkin I carved two days before.

I love you.

Cafeteria For Breakfast

K, I have been taking you to school often since H started kindergarten.

And I just love our mornings together.

H and mom are out the door by 7:30, and suddenly it’s just you and I in a quiet house.

I usually take Huck out and finish getting dressed while you watch cartoons.

When I am ready, I help you out of your pajamas and into your school clothes. I will gather up all of our things and fill-up my coffee one last time.

As I put you in the car you always ask to watch something on my phone – and I always say yes.

We get to Learning Tree right at 8 and I take you straight to the cafeteria for breakfast.

Your class does not come in until 8:05 – 8:10.

So, again, it’s just you and I – and it’s quiet one last time before the day starts.

The cafeteria lady is fixing plates and I always go get you one.

Afterward, I get you a glass of milk for the cart in the corner of the room.

And then we sit together side-by-side until your class get there.

Sometimes we talk and sometimes we simply enjoy the silence.

I just enjoy being with you.

I adore you.

I love you.
