Lawn Mower

K, we got to go on a dinner date a few weeks ago.

We got to go on a dinner date because mom and H were on a dinner date of their own.

After our date, you went to Lowe’s with me to get a part to fix our broken toilet.

Going in and coming out, you were mesmerized with the riding lawn mowers both displayed out front and inside the store.

What’s that, daddy?
A lawn mower to cut grass.
It cuts grass?
Yes.
A lawn mower that cuts our grass?
Yes sweet girl, sometimes with big yards there are lawn mowers to ride on so you don’t have to push.

We stopped on the way out and I let you sit on one.

I took a picture of you sitting up there, tall and proud.

You were smiling like you had conquered the world.

I love you.

Got To Rock

K, I got to rock you to sleep the other night in your room.

You fell asleep with your head on my chest as a sang.

It all seemed normal and fine as it was happening.

But a few minutes in, I could not remember the last time I had rocked you to sleep.

See, you do something everyday, and look up eventually, and can’t remember the last time it happened.

Take socks.

I mean, I help you put socks on every morning before school.

But there will quickly come a time that I won’t anymore, and I will not be able to recall how it ended.

I hope I get to rock you to sleep again soon, because I sure did enjoy this last time.

I love you.

Shooting In Midland

Ok, so, kind of crazy.

There was a shooting in Midland this weekend while we were there visiting the cousins.

I hesitate to use the term “mass shooting” because it has been so politicized.

(I mean, we can’t even agree over how to define a “mass shooting.”)

This was a mass shooting.

From what I can find, 7 people died, and 17 more were shot.

We were about a 10 minute drive away from it all as it was happening.

We never really felt in danger – but there was a bit of an erie feeling in the air while they were still trying to catch the guy.

I am so glad we were all safe. I am so glad you were safe.

I love you.
