Memorial Day Walk

Today we went for a Memorial Day Walk.

But let me start at the beginning.

Before that, we made our annual trek to New Braunfels for lunch with a few of my old friends.

We ate at a pizza joint called Infernos, just down the road from Greene Hall. After we ate and visited, we walked down to the dancehall and watched a band playing Texas swing. It was hot though, and all the kids were getting tired, so we only stayed a little while.

Afterward we went by and dropped $70 at Buc-ee’s – not including gas – because that is just how we roll right now.

We got back to Grandma and Grandpa’s house around 5.

But around dusk, we decided to go for a walk down their dead-end road.

Our walk was magical.

We saw:

  • A GIANT axis deer (buck).
  • A very large tarantula crossing the road.
  • A jackrabbit.
  • A bat.
  • A snake (that had been run over).
  • And a ton of fire flies.

I think few things will set off the imagination of little girls like a country stroll.

The walk halfway down the road was a breeze, and mom and I didn’t even mind having to carry y’all back.

I love you.

I’m Jesus

This last weekend we did our annual Albuquerque trip.

It was great. I love the hotel we stay at. Etc.

But this year we went about a month later than usual – and it was warm enough for us to be able to swim.

(Almost warm enough. It was still freezing.)

Still, you two girls talked us into swimming everyday in the hotel pool.

All that to say, K, you started to get cold and asked to get out of the water one evening.

Mom and H stayed behind as I scooped you out of the pool.

To keep you warm as Mom and H finished, I wrapped you up in two towels and sat you in a chair.

You still looked cold so I got a third towel and draped it over your head to shield you from the wind.

Before could even step away, you yelled:

I’m Jesus!

You said it about ten more times and we were all dying laughing.

I think I got it on video too.

I love you.
