Learning Everything

Learning Everything

Everyone is apparently learning everything this week.

This is all so fast.

Everyone is growing up.

Stop it now.

Yesterday H, you decided you wanted a shower for the first time ever.

You took one with mom, and I even got a video of you with a towel on your head when you got out.

You were so excited.

And K, you pulled up on me for the first time yesterday.

I was laying with you on the floor when you reached out, grabbed my shirt, and pulled yourself to your feet.

You held it for about five seconds before you lost your grip and fell backwards.

Don’t worry, I caught you.

Girl, you’re gonna walk before you crawl.

I laid in bed this morning, my arms around both of you.

I love you.

Working Hard

Working Hard

Under the issue of working hard, I saw this post about making your own luck and I liked how it was said.

On teaching his children about working hard:

I also want them to know that you can love hard work as well, that hard work isn’t a burden but a consequence of one’s own skillset matching a true need.”

The writer, Austin Kleon said it a different way, in regard writing.

Here he discusses the value in small amounts of work, and how they accumulate:

Building a body of work (or a life) is all about the slow accumulation of a day after day’s worth of effort over time. Writing a page each day doesn’t seem like much, but do it for 365 days and you have enough to fill a novel. You do it your whole life, and you have a career. So, if I can leave you with one piece of advice, something encouraging that I can sear into your brain, it’s this: Figure out what your little daily chunk of work is, and every day, no matter what, make sure it gets done. If you fail, the sun comes up tomorrow, and you get another chance. If you succeed, you’re still going to have to get up tomorrow and do something else.”

I hope you remember how big of a component hard work can be to success.

I love you.

Serving The Church

Serving In The Church

I have been thinking a good bit about serving in the church the last few weeks.

It seems action is so important, not just in everything else, but also in your faith.

Sure you can talk about writing, but how much do you write?

Many might want to be professional golfers, but how many are willing to play golf 5 hours a day for ten years?

Or, think of the countless people that have dreams of being a doctor, but are unwilling to study in high school.

For so many, the distance between talking and action is enormous.

That was all I could think of when I read these verses.

There is so much to do, and so few willing to act.

Matthew 9:36-38:

But when He saw the multitudes, He was moved with compassion for them, because they were weary and scattered, like sheep having no shepherd.
Then He said to His disciples, “The harvest truly is plentiful, but the laborers are few.

Therefore pray the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into His harvest.”

I love you.
