First Fishing

Girls girls girls.

All of you went fishing for the first time this Sunday!

Nothing fancy, we went with Pop to the playa behind mom’s office.

Pop bought each of you fishing poles for your first day.

We stayed for an hour and a half or so.

Although nobody caught anything – I’m still gonna call it a win.

(I think we need smaller fish hooks and better bait – but nobody asked me. 😉)

We shared a first, spent some great time together, and all enjoyed being outside.

To be honest, I am a little embarrassed that I did not take each of you sooner.

Let’s go again soon.

I remember fishing with my dad as a kid too. We would go to Pine Log Creek. I would fall asleep in the cool of the early morning and wake up to the sound of water under the boat. We would eat sandwiches and drink Cokes in the shade and ease through the afternoon without a care in the world. Just the two of us.

I love you.

Another School Year

The first day of another school year was today.

I mean, where did the summer go, right?

I have an overwhelming sense that I spent way too much time working and thinking about work this summer. And not enough time in the shade of the porch with a cold drink.

Be that as it may…

H, you have Mrs. Dollahite and Mrs. Abbott for third grade.

K, you have Mrs. Huerta for Kindergarten.

I remember starting to cry while dropping H off for her first day of Kindergarten. And I began tearing up a little today too, K.

Two things helped keep my emotions at bay.

First, Mrs. Huerta insisted on a quick drop-off (as many children do not have all the experience we do). For a few, it was really their first day of school.

Second, I had H on my arm, expecting waterworks, and looking at my eyes asking over and over: “Dad are you ok? Dad are you ok?” 🤣

K, you are still at Learning Tree, but OMGoodness you were ready for the festivities of the day this morning.

The pictures we took before school have you with the happiest grin in the world.

Looking forward to what this year brings for each of you.

I love you.
