Old Town Road

H, you took care of your sister last night.

See, mom was bathing K and I was giving you a shower.

It was late. T was tired.

We were simply running behind on everything,

In the midst of it all, T began to fuss.

Attempting to pacify her, I put her and her carrier in the bathroom so that she could watch me give you a shower.

As I washed, you sang and danced trying to make her happy.

You had her laughing and smiling in 30 seconds.

You sang Old Town Road, that you had recently learned at Rock Solid (summer camp).

And I beamed watching you both.

I love you.

Excuse To Get

T, you had your first hotel stay this last weekend!

Fourth of July – Midland. Texas.

We went down to see the cousins and enjoy their pool.

Honestly, we just needed an excuse to get out of town…

I mean, pandemic and all, I can’t even remember the last time we went on a trip.

In short, T, you were fantastic.

Babies in our family (and babies in general) have a long history of not liking going to sleep in new surroundings.

But you did better than we could have hoped for.

We kept you up way past your bedtime, but you were happy as can be when we finally wrapped you up in your papoose and laid you down to sleep.

I can’t wait to travel with you again soon.

We are, after all, a family that loves great hotels.

I love you.

James

K, I love it when I talk about T around you.

First of all, your eyes light up with a certain softness for your younger sister.

And second, you often call her by her first and middle name at the same time.

You call her “T James.”

The way your three-year-old voice cracks when you say it, the way that you tenderly continue to say it incorrectly, and the fact that the perfect rhythm of this time only lasts for a glimmer, makes me just want to sit in awe at the magical beauty of this life.

I love you.
