We went to Seminole for the day today.
It was a good trip but a bit melancholy too.
See, Pop and Gramms are selling the farm.
They have already sold the big pecan orchard…but they are in the process of selling the smaller orchard too.
(The smaller orchard is the “home place” with the barn on it.)
Anyway – this may have been the last time we ever get to go out there – and it’s kind of heard to believe.
Pop bought the place in 1979.
Mom has been going out there her entire life.
Heck, I have even been going out there off and on for a decade…
(After a day of golf I asked Pop if I could marry mom while checking water in the orchard.)
Anyway, we spent half the day at the house in town and finally made it out,
We fed Lightning (Pop’s horse), walked around under the shade of the trees, and took a lot of pictures.
Before we left, Pop took each of you for rides in his tractor and on the four-wheeler.
Mom even took the time and buried Sadie’s old ashes.
Crazy to think that you girls will probably will not remember much of the farm.
H, maybe a little. K, probably not. And T, not a glimmer.
I got all sentimental as we drove out – as I am prone to do.
I am so glad I got to spend my last farm day with you.
I love you.
