Our Fox

Have you seen our fox?

Probably not.

Because you are in bed by 8, and because foxes loiter and hunt in the moonlight.

The first time I saw it was coming home late one night from somewhere I can’t remember.

Mom saw a flash of it on her way to the gym early one morning.

And for about a year after that, that fox has been like a dream we were never sure we had.

Well a few nights ago, I went to let Huck out in the front-yard (it sometimes wakes y’all up when I let Huck out in the back-yard) and I saw the fox crossing the street directly in front of our house.

I panicked because Huck was not on his leash and quickly took him right back inside, whisper-yelling at mom to come quick as soon as I reached the door.

Mom came outside and the fox miraculously stopped by the edge of the street. They just looked at each other for the longest time. And the fox eventually sat down, holding its stare.

I got a cup of Huck’s food and poured it out on the curb while mom managed to get stung by half-a-dozen mosquitoes.

Eventually, the fox left us and disappeared into the bushes in front of the house across the street.

All the food was gone the next morning.

I hope you and I see the fox together soon.

I would love to show her to you.

I love you.
