Basketball Camp

H, you went to basketball camp for the first time this week.

Truth be told: You also played basketball for the first time this week.

I demonstrated and gave you four pointers before you went:

  • I showed you how to pass the ball.
  • Explained that if you have the ball, you must be dribbling it.
  • To score a point, just shoot the ball in the basket.
  • And that if the other team has the ball, you don’t let them score.

You loved it.

Mom dropped you off the first day and said you were a little scared, but that an older girl in the third grade, named Kendall took you under her wing.

We went and watched you play the last hour of the last day. You were beautiful. And a little fireball on defense.

And you won an award for best sportsmanship!

The coach told mom you were the sweetest thing – and loved cheering for the other girls.

I love you.

Kaylee Reese

H, your alternate ego right now is Kaylee Reese.

Whenever you play or put on a show, you will introduce yourself as “Kaylee.”

If I press any further, you will say it’s “Kaylee Reese.”

To me, it sounds a lot like Bailey Reese! But what do I know…

You are so adorable.

I love you.

Memorial Day Walk

Today we went for a Memorial Day Walk.

But let me start at the beginning.

Before that, we made our annual trek to New Braunfels for lunch with a few of my old friends.

We ate at a pizza joint called Infernos, just down the road from Greene Hall. After we ate and visited, we walked down to the dancehall and watched a band playing Texas swing. It was hot though, and all the kids were getting tired, so we only stayed a little while.

Afterward we went by and dropped $70 at Buc-ee’s – not including gas – because that is just how we roll right now.

We got back to Grandma and Grandpa’s house around 5.

But around dusk, we decided to go for a walk down their dead-end road.

Our walk was magical.

We saw:

  • A GIANT axis deer (buck).
  • A very large tarantula crossing the road.
  • A jackrabbit.
  • A bat.
  • A snake (that had been run over).
  • And a ton of fire flies.

I think few things will set off the imagination of little girls like a country stroll.

The walk halfway down the road was a breeze, and mom and I didn’t even mind having to carry y’all back.

I love you.
