Another Carta Valley Funeral

Another Carta Valley Funeral

I went to another Carta Valley funeral this weekend.

I was out of town for 14 hours.

And for 11 or those hours, I was driving.

I left at 5 AM, got to Del Rio just before 11, ate lunch with my parents, went to my cousin’s house to meet up with everyone, drove to the gravesite in Carta Valley that started at 2, was in the car driving home by 3, and got home around 8:30

Talk about a kick in the face.

I felt like a truck had hit me the next day.

But it was worth the drive.

See, my uncle died last week. My mom’s only brother.

My uncle was a sad man for a lot of years – I think he was mostly eaten up with regret.

But failure is better than regret. Every single time.

I am so glad that as Christians, we have hope beyond the grave.

And I hope you swing for the moon.

I love you.

All I Want Is To Get An RV And Go

All I Want Is To Get An RV And Go

You know what I want? I want to get in an RV and go.

It’s a little fantasy that I have.

I have a job that is completely mobile – all I need is a laptop to work.

We buy an RV, spend a few days packing, and then we just leave for four or five months.

Maybe we take the ultimate road trip.

Maybe we get snowed in somewhere in Wyoming, have coffee in the rain in Portland, go bowling in Little Rock, watch the sunrise over the Grand Canyon, try a Primanti Brothers sandwich in Pittsburgh, and share a gigantic pretzel at Disney World.

I want to go everywhere as a family.

In the end, we might not get to do it all.

But that’s ok too.

I love you.

Dallas Bust

We tried to go to Dallas this weekend.

Just an excuse to get out of town, I think.

But the trip took a turn.

I had a tickle in my throat, but by the time we got there, I felt full-on sick.

Wicked sinus infection.

On top of that, we forgot that it is sometimes difficult to travel with babies.

K, hardly slept.

So we were in Dallas, Ft. Worth really, for less than 24 hours.

We packed up and just came home.

The bonus was we all got to spend that time in the car together.

And Sunday night after we got back, the entire family was in bed by 9.

I love you.
